Going to be a long hop

As the title brief, finally its time to change my mobile device but what is that hop?? i am talking about. Yes, the OS which the phone runs, my current device Nokia N73 Music edition runs on S60 3rd edition intial release and my new phone which is going to be Nokia 5800 XM runs on S60 5th edition. For better understanding please read this

Between the S60 3rd intial release and S60 5th edition there were S60 3rd edition Feature pack1(Nokia N82,E71,E63 etc..), S60 3rd edition Feature pack2 (Nokia N96, N79, N78,N86, E72 etc), i found N73 music edition was good for my purpose and didnt update to any of those devices and now i found it to be so outdated and boring also Nokia have stopped support for this device and releasing firmware updates

Why Nokia 5800XM ??

Being a Nokia fanboy i was disappointed when other mobile phone makers like Samsung, LG etc releasing touchscreen phones well ahead of Nokia. Finally they broke the shackles out and released 5800XM full touchscreen device and the first to run S60 5th edition symbian OSv9.4 there were lot of problems with both hardware and software of this device which made it unstable and well known earpiece problem volume too low, worst case not working is the most annoying one, and since the OS version was new there were less third party apps for the device. Now the story is entirely different and every problem is addressed and there are plethora of apps available many are freeware, you can get some here

Till date this device is the only value for money phone packing all the features one would expect in a smartphone, the intial firmware of the device was very buggy and the recently released v31 seems to be stable overall the phone is zippy also Nokia have drastically reduced the price of this device. This phone was a bit of disappointment for those who bought it when it was launched and many of them were expecting Nokia to release a firmware update to make it stable and now it is stable and running great i am not going to waste any more time getting this one

Secondary device :

It doesnt imply that i am going to dump my N73ME and get this one, i am going to use it as my secondary device it is still rock solid with no problems and the camera in it is one of the best 3.2MP ever fitted on a mobile device

I will post my 5800XM experience after playing around with it for sometime so watch out for this space

Thank you

Misunderstanding the Word "Speed breaker"

Look at this pic its a speed breaker opposite to my office building and each and every time when i see someone mostly two wheelers passby this one their face turns red and they curse it like anything and the brain behind this speed breaker has understood the word "speed breaker" very severely and has laid this one with such efforts.Users of this road are avoiding it completely for the sake they should cross this disturbance. Yes speed breakers are essential and needed but that should not make one not use that particular road this is a prime example of it

Its not a Speed breaker its a Speed stopper.

What do you call this... fate???

One Friday when I woke up it was 2pm in the afternoon don’t blame me for sleeeeping that long that’s because I slept after night shift at work adding to my frustration there was no power in our area and there was less amount of rice too, so took my bike and went out to buy rice so at least I can manage with curd rice to fill my starving stomach to my surprise rice shops nearby my house were closed due to lunch time only disadvantage in my area is you don’t have hotels, mess or any kaiyendhi bhavans.
Guess what my next idea was let us have Pizza for lunch today (en nenapula theeya vaikka). Nearest pizza shop from my place is about 3 to 4kms that wasn’t a great deal for me since I was ready go there considering my starvation at that moment, found the pizza shop it was Dominos' Pizza saw the list and found they are having veg pizzas from Rs39 onwards, in the billing counter i just told the lady give me a small size pizza pointing this Rs39 one of the chart, I don’t know what she understood and billed me for a 107Rs pizza again considering my starvation I gave the money and got it and something made me to take it home and eat.

I was heading back home and met with an accident with another two wheeler (don’t panic its a mild one)and my right leg got bruised and it led to a severe damage to my bike left handle bar got dislocated, mud guard broke and controls on the left side including indicators, horn didn’t function OMG look at the chain of events here, what next at around 4.15 pm I entered my house with this pizza but hats off to dominos' pizza packing it was rock solid inside and that didn’t even move an inch from its place, thinking it will satisfy my stomach I had a bite, I was totally disappointed it was so horrible to eat and I felt why did I decide to get this one I have eaten pizzas sometime back in bakery shops for Rs30 and it kicks dirt on this one from a familiar pizza shop.

Bottom-line: A lunch which could have got over by 25rs had I found a rice shop ended spending more than 650Rs , Yes doctor consultation, medicine, bike repair and this crap pizza cost. I show less interest towards fate, Raghukalam, Yemagandam but incidents like these really make me wonder, do these virtual things make changes in our day today activities, I admit the fact that it was a horrible decision from me, there could be two reasons for this when I would have opted against my instincts saying nothing will happen secondly I have no other go to doubt these virtual things

So with what can I conclude????

  1. Never ever in your lifetime have pizza that too for lunch.
  2. Don’t sleep long even after night shifts.
  3. Drive slowly.
  4. Don’t believe these virtual things.

Mobile phone Operating frequncies

Bought a mobile phone in the United states will it work in India ??, same way if u buy a mobile phone outside your native country and want to know if that works in other countries too then this article will be of little help

First what u have to look before buying a mobile phone in other countries and also want to use them wherever you go is  their Operating frequncies

Operating frequncies differ from country to country, example if you take U.S for instance their operating frequencies are entirely different from other part of the world its like "U.S and Rest of the World", there are two things involved here one is operating frequency of GSM and WDCDMA(for 3G)

Note: For detailed information look here GSM and WCDMA  also look UMTS

Want to know what is the Network band for your country Look here

Now consider this case where your device is a Quad band GSM and triband WCDMA one which works on 850/900/1800/1900 GSM networks and 900/1900/2100 WCDMA networks and you have bought this device in India and want to use it in the U.S

For a mobile device to work in india it should support GSM 900 and WCDMA (for 3G) 2100 frequency bands atleast, on the other hand the same device to work in the U.S under GSM and WCDMA(for 3G) it should support GSM850 or GSM1900 and WCDMA 850 or 1900 frequency bands, now select a device which works on all these frequencies and you are good to go, its worth looking into the company website before buying the device, its not going to take any hard time to check whether it supports all frequencies that are out there considering you want to the device to function wherever you go

Some devices may not work on all 3G netwroks it depeds on the service provider you choose but a device of above specification works on all GSM networks

comments welcome.........

Its time to scratch your heads

"Diwali Offer scratch the card and get exciting gifts worth lakhs"

Get the hell out of here, what are these people thinking, you see alot of these at the time of festive seasons and the truth behind this is you are wasting time in scratching that card, it is not worth a rupee and gifts what you get is only disappointment "Better luck next time"

Often shop owners dish out these "fit for nothing" offers to allure customers to buy products in their shops and malls and for a surprise this time its a major mobile phone company which has stepped in to these crap offers and i have never heard anyone by luck has benefited by these offers also there will be no announcements that "this" person has won the lucky draw. they make offer announcements and forget to give the prices after, true fact is there will be nothing to give neither the scratch card or coupon etc..have the wordings " Congrats your are the luck winner of this 'crap' "

This offer was a total farce that almost no one got great cash backs instead got useless wallpapers, ringtones and applications why on earth one should buy phone only to get applications and wallpapers as offers when there are umpteen available on the internet a simple google search would do wonders here, had it been any free gifts like headphones, blutooth headsets, speaker systems etc there are a lot which can be given and no one would have cursed that company on that auspicious day

what i have observed in the recent years is it is only an act of hood-winking people and make them fall into the trap and sincerely the prices and offers are not present in it, mostly i advice relatives, friends of mine not to buy products capped under these offers

You can even rely on discounts like 10% to 50 % but that too have cons in it, but when compared to the said above they are considerable

So when next time you see any sort of these eyewashing offers stay away and avoid it or dont be the first fooled out instead check with the others who were fooled

Diffusing B in movies

Bomb diffusing sequences in most of the indian movies will be a nail-biter, hero will be in a situation to save some people in factory, public meeting, old building etc....

This will be the moment everyone scratches their head which wire red, green or blue in that bomb needs to be disconnected so that the timer stops, there will only be fewer seconds left and finally our hero cuts any wire and the timer stops just at 2 or 3 sec before the time of blast, thats acceptable our hero is not a bomb diffuser nor a electronics engineer

Now this is interesting who on earth said that hollywood movies dont have such sort of artificial nail-biting scenes one night i saw Armageddon movie(released in the year 1998) on star movies and it was the first time i saw it i wont go into the story though and it goes like this hero, his crew, an astronaut from NASA and some sciencetists are on a space mission at one stage people down on earth decides to abort the mission losing hope that it will not be a success so they trigger a nuclear bomb so that the space shuttle explodes on space

That NASA astronaut is the only person who knows a bit about it and hero will literally fall on his feet to deactivate it and promises the astronaut that he will complete the mission successfully for god sake and finally persuades the astronaut, 3 min left he dont know which wire he should cut, sweat pours down from everyone's face red or blue, red or blue...... is the murmur, finally he cuts the blue wire the times stops at 2 sec

Hey let us be logical here a NASA astronaut who would have surely known that the bomb would be triggered at one stage was he not told how to deactivate it atleast in case of emergencies and why he should break into the circuitry of that nuclear bomb to diffuse it ??

Save battery power in Phones

Here are some tips to save battery power in phones

1. Screensavers are always been an eye-candy feature on cell phones and it costs your battery power switch Off screensavers

2. Next is the screen brightness or contrast make the slider almost to its minimum position which helps a lot in consuming battery power, latest phones comes with automatic light sensors which alters the display light according to the lighting conditions

3. Switch off the Dual mode(when you are not in an area where there is no 3G coverage) and change it to GSM mode because when your GSM signal decreases the device automatically searches for 3G or UMTS signal more the device search for network signal it drains your battery, you can find the settings here Menu > settings > Network mode > GSM/ Dualmode/ UMTS this applies to all phones please dont qoute me if it differs from what you have in the device, you can also find this on the device user guide

Note: The above mentioned(point 3) applies only to phones having 3g capability and ability to change between GSM and 3G modes

4. Next is the Packet data connection if your are accessing internet on your cell phone through GPRS of your network provider go to settings > connections> Packet data > change it to "when needed" if it is "when available", the navigation steps mentioned above suits for Nokia phones and check your device use guide to change it in your device

5. Switch off Bluetooth, Wi-fi if not needed (applies to phones having bluetooth, Wi-fi)

S60 smartphones RAM management

Smartphones are made to behave smartly and are considered as siblings of the Omnipresent computers and Laptops. As the topic says RAM in a smartphone is not huge when compared to that of computers, here are some things which u can do inorder to maintain RAM in its level of operation so that u can avoid annoying "Memory Full" warnings

Important Note: Below procedures applies to Symbian S60 V3 and V5 devices

1. First make sure you dont have any applications running in the background and close all Open applications, a long press on the Menu key will show the applications running in the background and exit all those

2. Some third party applications are needed in order to access system folders, accessing with the inbulit file manager is not possible on some smartphones. Applications like X-plore and Y-browser serves for good purpose and helps in clearing ur "Cache" folder of your phone, a simple Google search on these applications can do wonders

3. Third Party applications again, Handy Taskman and Jbtaskman other two applications which helps in manging your device applications, Some applications such as Camera, Log, Gallery etc wont give back the RAM they have consumed to the device once closed(exit) and stays in the background eating RAM by using Handy Taskman or Jbtaskman you can close them to get back the amount of RAM these application consume

Note: Pressing the Red(call end key) button doesn't exit some application, so always Use Options > exit to to exit from an application

The above three procedures manges RAM usage in the device, the upcoming procedure helps in maintaining the Phone memory in tact

Phone memory is another important aspect the specification sheet of device says Inbuilt phone memory is 100mb means that it is amount of shared memory between the phone and RAM in this case free executable RAM can be around 30-35 Mb and the rest is user storage Phone memory its better to have some memory on the phone

Store your messages and e-mail attachments on to your memory card by changing the storage location Messaging > options > settings > other > Memory in use, bychanging to memory card the apllication may respond slowly and it depends on your comfort level

What am i trying to establish

My suggestion for all is "go mobile" smartphones are now available in really less cost when compared to laptops and desktops in addition to that they can make calls too

Some providers are giving unlimited internet for their postpaid customers so get a smartphone with a good data plan and be online wherever you go

Why not go for wireless internet providers

After reading all that rubbish you may ask me "Are you a fool to use mobile internet services" when there are lot of wireless services available

for that i first need to buy a laptop or desktop "good" i can buy one and next i need to shell down some money for subscribing to wireless services there are wireless providers giving high speed broadband services
my question is,
1. are they affordable?
2. Getting them is a bit difficult when compared of getting a new mobile prepaid connection
3. They say high speed broadband connection but in most of the areas in our country doesnt have that infrastructure implemented
4. Finally availing a costly one which doesn't gives us what they are intended to do

Why mobile service providers in INDIA doesnt offers good data plans anymore(mainly prepaid users)

I became a hard core mobile fan by late end of my engineering career and love to browse internet in mobile device, really liked internet service given by my provides because no other provider was giving unlimited internet access and download for 24 hrs at a meagre 20rs, there was also a weekly plan where you get unlimited internet access and download for 75 rs, and a monthly plan for 375rs for the same, is that a good deal?? A big YES from me, its icing on a cake for a die-hard mobile internet user and i wonder if someone denies it
all above i have mentioned is only for airtel users in TN circle, i agree offers varies from state to state
i was using it to the fullest extent including for my project works
Things changed and i moved to hyderabad because i got a job there the moment i went there i stuck to the same provider(Airtel ) only for the internet services they offer and boy i was happy(i can check mails, chat with my friends, download songs, update my profile(orkut, youtube),check for updates for my mobile, download softwares for my mobile a lot more) to my surprise the services were even cheaper when compared to TN but there was a blessing in disguise from airtel here, only daily plans were available at 15rs/24hrs, no weekly plans and no monthly either, thats a real bummer
But that didnt hurt me a lot as i was busy with my work too and activated it only on my weekly offs things went on smooth and in came a message to me
"Dear customer the unlimited gprs plan is withdrawn and you can access rental free internet service at a "pathetic" 30ps/50kb"

why on earth you do that without giving any proper justification, the next moment i called their customer services and had a go at them and till now i didnt get any proper answer from them, torrid customer response

Days went past and there are no signs that they are going to reinstate that service and also there was no one word answer YES or NO from them

So what basically a customer do "move to another provider" i did that and choose RelianceGSM and enquired about their internet services it is next to horrible and they are not even close to what Airtel gave me but i am having an eye on their internet services because they are the only 3G ready provider once the 3G auctions roll out i will consider them

So still i am stranded by not getting the deal i wanted from any providers

Then came the revolutionary TATA DoCoMo try this too said my instincts also they charge per second "Great" other providers fall on their feet, what can they offer for customers like me well they too followed the herd in mobile internet services, the best available from them is 10ps/10kb

Coming back to airtel they came back with some decent offers like do a RC 28 and get 15mb free valid upto 7 days, RC 94 get 100mb valid upto 1 month but none close to what they are capable of "Why cant you give unlimited internet back" is that because of recession you couldn't afford, there can only be assumptions not confirmations

so still i hope in near future they will reinstate back

Chronicles of krishNIA

Things I wanted to tell others,

I really was not interested in doing this anyway as a last resort i need some space to fill out so, i want to share chronicles of mine

I dont want to come from the school days for the fact that i could hardly recollect any incidences which i can publish here and moreover the real change happended when i was made to study engineering. I dont want to study engg instead i was eager to get into Loyola college to do B.sc physics since i scored well in that subject in Higher secondary, I never thought that finally i will end up getting an enginnering seat(ECE) in Adhiparasakthi engg college, Melmaruvathur. I dont want to blame anyone for this, ultimately thats Destiny, I accepted it and made up my mind to pursue engg at that college, initial days of my college was really terrible as i have to travel a lot of distance from my residence i should mention here the Train no. 104 which runs between chennai egmore and villupuram at that time, only thing good about my college life was this train journey when the head count travelling by this train to college increased by each and every semester it was great time for us enjoying the journey. At this point of time everything went topsy turvy for me i will start early in the morning from house and come late by return, i could hardly see my school friends nearby my house and i was really moaning to my self why did I do this ??

Semesters rolled by and i got accustomed to the routine set up and the only foremost this which was running in my mind is to finish this damn course. In college lot happended and i was having a good rapport(I think i am honest here??) with almost everyone i sat with and happy days came inside the class room when i relocated my place from the first row to penultimate of last row there was both advantages and disadvantages but the latter was less when compared to the former. It was an ideal place to sleep, mock, look everything also the guy who was sitting near synced with me in all those things which made me feel happy. In the hind sight by almighty's grace i was able to clear all semesters without arrears with a above average percentage( I am a bit "paddips")

There was one company which decided to give me a job for what i was capable of GREAT!! i was on cloud nine when i got the Offer from them at this point of time i decided one thing "WE SHOULD BE COMPLACENT WITH WHAT WE HAVE GOT" it was a BPO job which others prescribed to me as not the one for u MAN!! that was poking me a lot and i thought i should not fall once again into the TRAP of overratism, i very well knew that my well wishers wants me to see as something different and i regret that i have disappointed them and at back of my mind i need to stick to what i am capable of which i rightly did ..

So here we go!! so as called the part in ur career which transforms an individual into an respectable position JOB PLACE. I was lucky enough that i got into a Work atmosphere which i never had thought that i would get in. My initial phase of training was communication training where i got an oppurtunity to be a student of this great lady my communication trainer( "Vanzi" training as they call in BPOs) Ms.Malar Ph.d in English(My apologies that i couldn't recollect the university from which she got that), after Mr.K.S.Pandiyan who was everyone's inspirational staff of ECE dept,APEC i met a teacher who can make an impact apart from teaching. Such a calm, composed, benign Lady who has a very good expertise in the language taught us how the way it should be dealt and only from there i came to how the words should be pronounced as far as persons i have come across she was the one who didnt show up any signs of tense and hard faces ( I am not hurting anyone here Sorry if i sound like that). With her inputs about the language i was pushed up prior to other members in the batch to the next level of training which was technical training. Nothing great happended here!!

After the technical training got over (there was a talk that people who clears Vanzi training will no need to worry about technical training since it is for name sake, so i didnt take tech trainig that seroiously though i performed good there but not outstanding) our batch was sent to the Floor to take calls till that point of time we didnt know that we are going to speak to UK people directly, the company i worked with for was BT(British telecom)in HCL. First month of calls took the S**t out of us and we were totally humiliated by UK customers then later we came to know the process very well and our team was first on the floor for each and every month. One more interesting fact is that language got fine tuned in the due course we were(all who were involved in the process) able to speak english with much ease and most of the cases without flaw this point i was really satisfied that i have gained something out of this work and one of my colleague who even got visa to study in UK just for the sake that he was totally comfortable with the UK accent in the voice test they kept for him in the consultancy through which he fled to UK

Slowly the process was getting tougher with calls flooding in and the job became hectic for me and for the rest of the members too. There was complete unity in us and information was shared among ourselves in a healthier way also it was very competitive i was really happy that i have got into environment where u can share ideas and work as a team. I liked the Work culture but not the Work so i decided to leave this one and try for someother job
